Exploring a Bizarre Steam Demo: Playing as a Poop on a Quest to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and gamers have discovered plenty of engaging independent titles. However, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game features a hero that is truly a turd striving to travel to a commode. As a fun fact, "Unko" translates to "poop."

The gameplay is straightforward: just use a single jump button. In one hundred fifty challenges, you'll face tough enemies and access a market to acquire outfits for your poop character.

Execute your actions with caution, since one mistake means beginning again. Jump using floating orbs to propel your character to new heights, navigate crumbling platforms, and activate switches to reveal new areas. Collect UN-KOINS for buying challenging levels in which the action ramps up.

Graphically, the game shows off neon level designs and a killer music score. The retro visual style with moving basic polygons may remind gamers of beloved games like Earthbound.

While it's tough to name previous releases where you play as a piece of feces, interactive entertainment have long featured toilet humor. For instance, in Death Stranding, players create explosives from character excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ manure as soil enrichment. And of course, this theme is present extensively in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.

Despite its goofy premise, Unko Technica has already earned notable awards, like being named best at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. This trial version is available currently on Steam, with the complete version planned to arrive on computers in the fall.
