Learners Voice Anxieties That AI Is Weakening Their Academic Skills, Investigation Reveals
According to new research, students are sharing concerns that using artificial intelligence is negatively impacting their ability to study. Many state it renders schoolwork “effortless”, while others argue it hinders their innovative capacity and impedes them from acquiring additional competencies.
Broad Utilization of Artificial Intelligence Among Students
A report looking at the usage of artificial intelligence in UK learning centers found that only 2% of learners between the ages of 13 and 18 said they did not use AI for their schoolwork, while 80% said they regularly utilized it.
Negative Effect on Skills
In spite of AI’s popularity, 62% of the learners reported it has had a negative influence on their competencies and progress at their educational institution. One in four of the respondents affirmed that artificial intelligence “facilitates accessing solutions without independent work”.
A further 12% reported AI “restricts my imaginative processes”, while equivalent percentages reported they were less likely to solve problems or produce innovative text.

The findings align with research-based studies on the usage of AI in academics. A particular study assessed neural responses while essay writing among learners using advanced AI systems and determined: “These results raise concerns about the long-term educational implications of LLM reliance and underscore the need for deeper inquiry into AI’s role in learning.”
Almost 50% of the two thousand respondents surveyed said they were concerned their peers were “surreptitiously utilizing AI” for academic work without their educators being able to spot it.
Desire for Guidance and Favorable Components
Numerous participants indicated that they desired more assistance from teachers for the proper use of artificial intelligence and in judging whether its results was reliable. A program designed to supporting instructors with AI education is being initiated.

Yet, the bulk of pupils reported using artificial intelligence assisted them develop additional competencies, for instance 18% who said it helped them grasp challenges, and 15% who said it assisted them generate “new and better” ideas.
